If you are involved in a car accident, it can be a stressful situation. After the accident, you may not feel any immediate aches or pains and decide to pass on medical treatment.

This isn’t a smart move. There are more than a few reasons you need to seek immediate care after an accident, no matter how minor it may seem or how good you may feel.

Address pain before it starts

If you feel pain after an accident, you know you need medical treatment. However, you should see a doctor even if you don’t feel pain. Your body is resilient but can’t withstand the thousands of pounds of glass, plastic and metal that collide during an accident.

In high-stress situations, your body releases hormones that dull pain for a while. What you don’t feel at first may turn into debilitating pain eventually. Sometimes injuries can even take longer to show. With immediate medical treatment, these hidden injuries can be found and treated before they get worse.

Documentation for a personal injury claim

When you are involved in an accident, you may have to prove the injuries were sustained during it. Seeking medical treatment right after it will provide the documentation and evidence needed. Sometimes, insurance companies for the at-fault party will deny a claim if you haven’t sought medical treatment, claiming you weren’t injured or that your injuries are exaggerated. All this can be countered with proper medical treatment documentation.

Don’t wait to seek medical treatment

As you can see, seeking medical treatment immediately after a car accident is important. This will ensure that you receive the treatment needed and help you prove your injuries if you file a lawsuit for your damages and suffering.
